Choir Director

Lead people of all ages in the congregation in music making experiences so that they may grow in understanding the Christian faith, develop and strengthen their relationship with God, become better equipped for daily living as faithful Christian disciples. The choir director is under the direct supervision of the pastor.

Responsibilities

·         Prepare, rehearse and direct the Sanctuary Choir for all worship services, including Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter services.

·         In collaboration with the Pastor and Organist, select anthems for performance which will support the theme of the worship service.

·         Select and prepare ancillary music such as gathering music, introits, doxologies, benedictions and responses as needed.

·         Meet with the pastor, other music staff, and others responsible for planning and leading worship and other events to provide a comprehensive music ministry that moves worshippers closer to Christ.

·         Regularly recruit new choir members from the congregation as well as outside the church.

·         Teach musical skills in singing and leading the congregation’s participation in worship. 

·         Promote the spiritual life of the choir community, helping them develop a closer relationship with Jesus Christ.

·         Plan special music for worship services when the choir is on break.

·         Provide music for additional services during the year including Thanksgiving, Christmas and the Easter season.

·         Oversee the church music library, choir robes and other related items.

·         Prepare and submit titles, composers and other music literature to the church office to meet administrative deadlines for inclusion in the bulletin, newsletter and website.

Qualifications

·         Faithful, joyful relationship with Jesus Christ.

·         Attested competent musical skills, particularly in conducting choral music.

·         Ability to work with volunteer and amateur musicians.

·         Knowledge with a variety of church choral musical styles.

·         Collaborative skills to work with staff and congregation.

·         Commitment to the church’s vision, mission leadership and congregation

Organist/
Pianist

The keyboardist/organist is under the direct supervision of the pastor.

Responsibilities

·         Provide appropriate piano/organ music for the traditional Sunday service utilizing a variety of musical styles.

·         Rehearse weekly with the choir, other ensembles, soloists and other musicians as needed.

·         Work with the Sanctuary Choir director to create a music ministry integral to worship.

·         Establish a weekly personal rehearsal schedule which is calendared in the church office.

·         Meet with the pastor, other music staff, and others responsible for planning and leading worship and other events to provide a comprehensive music ministry that moves worshippers closer to Christ.

·         Submit the titles and composers of music literature to the church office to meet administrative deadlines for inclusion in the bulletin.

·         Provide music for additional services during the year including Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter seasons.

·         Provide accompaniment for funerals, memorial services and weddings.

·         Provide substitutes for all absences.

·         Oversee maintenance of church instruments.
