Radical Hospitality
"Welcome one another, therefore, just as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God." (Romans 15:7)
"Vibrant, fruitful, growing congregations practice Radical Hospitality. Out of genuine love for Chirst and for others, their laity and pastors take the initiative to invite, welcome, include, and support newcomers and help them grow in faith as they become part of the Body of Christ. Their members focus on those outside their congregations with as much passion as they attend to the nurture and growth of those who already belong to the family of faith, and they apply thier utmost creativity, energy, and effectiveness to the task, exceeding all expectations."
- Robert Schnase, Five Practices of Fruitful Congregations
Adult Ministries
SUM Friends
A social group of mostly "empty nesters" ... or those awaiting the day! Couples and singles. We meet once a month, for fun, fellowship and for service to the church. Meetings usually take place on the third Saturday evening or Sunday afternoon. We meet in homes, at church or at various outings around the area. Contact the church office for details.
Solon UMC Singles
Solon UMC singles are off and running! Our name is North Coast Innovative Singles (NCIS). We meet the 2nd weekend of each month, the day dependent on event. Our goal is to have fun and enjoy fellowship with other singles of all ages. Contact the church office with questions.
"Holey Fingers" Stitchers
This informal organization is open to anyone with an interest in the "art" of quilting. Meetings of "Holey Fingers" combine an enjoyable social occasion with a serious purpose. The group meets throughout the year to make quilts, which are used as a fund raising tool for various projects in the church and community.
Meeting Times are 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM on the 1st Thursday of each month and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on the 3rd Monday of each month.
Contact Ginny Bartels or May Rylander at (440) 248-1573 or email the church at info@solonumc.org.
CD Ministry
All the worship services are recorded on CD. Copies are distributed to anyone requesting them. The reasons for wanting a copy of a tape are many. It might be a particularly memorable worship experience, a meaningful musical contribution or a means of sharing in the worship experience for a shut-in.
Whether you want to receive a single tape or a copy every week, they may be obtained by contacting the church Secretary in person, by calling (440) 248-1573 or by email to the church at info@solonumc.org.
Staff
Pastor: Scott Low
pastor@solonumc.org
Pastor Scott Low has been leading the Solon UMC since July 2006. Scott came to Solon after pastorates in Cambridge and Wooster. He has great appreciation for a variety of worship styles from the old favorite hymns and liturgy to the modern music genres and spontaneous prayers. Scott is committed to working with the staff and congregation at Solon UMC to provide radical hospitality, passionate worship, intentional faith development, risk-taking mission and service, and extravagant generosity as we seek to live the love of Jesus every day.
Scott has years of experience in youth ministry and believes strongly that children and youth are a vital part of the life of the church. He also believes that he must be involved in the life of the community building bridges into the life of faith.
Scott is an avid bicyclist and snow skier, a big Ohio State Buckeyes fan, and enjoys watching and participating in most sports.
Born and raised in central Ohio, he is a graduate of The Columbus Academy High School and the Ohio Northern University where he earned a business degree and was a four-year starter at running back. After a short career in business, he answered his call to ministry and attended The Methodist Theological School in Ohio. Scrapbooking Night
This group meets once a month in the evening (6:00PM if a Saturday, 7:00PM if a Friday) and into the late night to document and preserve memories for their families and friends. An expert, Debbie Schinker, brings materials to borrow and buy, ideas and much knowledge to share, and encouragement for all. The cost is only $5 and is waived on the first visit. Participants take turns providing the snack. Some people create elaborate pages with many embellishments; other people create simple pages. Some people even create their scrapbooks on the computer! Questions, contact Kay Low.
