History
Solon United Methodist Church was founded in 1958 with 64 original members. Sunday worship and meetings were held in the local library and school until 1964 when a portion of the present building at SOM Center and Cannon Roads, was constructed.
As with all such endeavors, challenges were encountered and overcome during the building years of 1964-66. In the 1970s the congregation grew in morale, numbers, and financial support. A further building program was started in 1976, culminating in the construction of the present sanctuary in 1981. The building program was completed in 1983 and, coinciding with the Bi-centennial of American Methodism, the church's 25th anniversary was celebrated.
The church has now reached another crucial milestone in its growth and development as the congregation has added Sunday School rooms and a revamped Sanctuary to accommodate multi-media and multiple styles of worship services. Sunday
morning at 9:00 a.m. there is a traditional service with hymns
and responsive readings. Sunday morning at 10:45 a.m.
there is a contemporary "Summit" worship service. A
third worship service has been added to meet the needs of those
unable to attend worship on Sunday morning. Every Saturday
at 4:30pm there is a "New Beginnings" blended worship
service. |
